My eyes fill up with tears when I look at my son’s face. He is so young and he is going through so much. I tell him this is going to get over, that we will go back home soon but I know this is just the beginning. The cancer in his body is spreading rapidly and there is no way we can stop the treatment. But the cost...it is way beyond my means. A few months ago, Vishnu started getting sick. The little boy who loved going to school every morning could now hardly get up from his bed. He said his knees were paining and so were his elbows, He also complained of severe headache and pain in the eyes. We took him to normal doctor thinking it is because of excessive playing in hot sun, but no medicines were working so our worries started getting worse. And then he started bleeding from his mouth and nose. We rushed him to the nearby hospital. They gave him some emergency medicine but advised us to take him to a bigger hospital. During this time our son went into Coma and we were stunned! What had happened to my son, all of a sudden. It was here in the bigger hospital that we got the shock of our life. Our happy and energetic Vishnu was battling Pinealoblastoma, a rare type of tumor. Vishnu is suffering from Pinealoblastoma and bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy is the solution for his recovery. With the treatment starting he has come back to normal from coma. He is kept under complete care. Apart from body ache, bleeding, bruising all over the body - one of the major consequences of cancer is the lowered immunity. Doctors have therefore asked Vishnu to stay away from the outside world as much as possible. He needs to stay in one room with his parents. And he hates that. He hates not being able to go out and play. He asks me when he can go back home. But with the virus situation outside, doctors have strictly asked us to not let him out. The only time he leaves his room is when he goes for his chemo. We are distraught and have already spent over 5 lakhs after borrowing heavily from relatives and selling off a piece of land. But Vishnu needs further chemo and a bone marrow transplant to be permanently cured which costs around 12 to 12.5 Lakhs. We were in no clue how to tackle this situation when our doctor suggested us to approach CARF. CARF is helping us in this tough fight but the fight is not over, we need the support and help of all you kind hearted people to help to save my son.
