“I still reminisce the joyful memories of our life, when Sunny was born, the god-given opportunity to become parents for the first time. As a poor family, we did not have a lot to look up to on most days but the news of our first child kept us elated even when the going was rough. Like every parent, my only dream was to give my son a good life. I did not compromise on whatever he asked us. Right from watching him smile, crawl, walk first time, speak, play and then to going play school were the happiest days with imperishable moments of our life.
All of a sudden, our peaceful life took a drastic turn, when my son started falling sick very often suffering from unexplained fever, headache, painful stomach, nausea, and weakness which were unusual. Then we took him to the doctor and even after taking the prescribed medicines there were no improvement in his health. Therefore the doctor suggested us further medical tests, in which it was diagnosed of “Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia” (type of blood cancer), for which the prescribed treatment is costing us around Rs.14,00,000/- approx that includes hospitalization, chemotherapy, investigation and procedures with antibiotics and blood products. The said treatment is very expensive and unaffordable for the under privileged family like us.
Ever since the pandemic and Sunny’s treatment, I lost my job, which was the only source of our family income. Now I am completely helpless with empty pockets, as I have taken multiple loans, borrowed huge funds from my friends and relatives, so that my child’s treatment should never get stopped. The day we have 3 square meals is a good day for us and we’ve never seen more than a few thousand rupees in our lifetime. But today, we’ve been asked to arrange lakhs of rupees in a few days’ time. In our life, we have experienced extreme hunger and poverty; but nothing is more painful than seeing our only child suffer like this in such a lifeless condition. All his excitement and happiness has been snatched away because of the excruciating pain he is enduring. With each passing days, his condition is getting worsened. At this juncture, you remain our only hope. Thus, I plead with you to please save my child. We would be indebted to your generosity and kindness for the rest of our lives.”
My son has been fighting for his life since he was a 5-year-old. Now years later, he is still fighting. However, the cancer seems to take more and more control of his body. I can’t help but think, will God spare my child this time or will cancer actually take him away from me? In 2016 he wa
